Just got back home. Ate enough that I won’t be needing breakfast in the morning nor will I need lunch.
One thing I want to say is the reason it’s initially hard to write on a daily basis is because we think that every time we write something, it has to be perfect. The same way we think that when a photographer presses the shutter, the photo is a masterpiece. It’s not like that ever. For a photographer 99% of the photos will be terrible. I’m not a writer but I imagine that writing must be the same thing. I remember Cormac McCarthy saying that he would have shoeboxes full of writing attemps.
So when you are trying to write every day, don’t worry about meeting a certain quota. You don’t need 2 pages of writing. One good paragraph is enough. Writing out one good sentence is probably even better.
I’ve been writing consistently for three weeks straight in my personal journal. But I’m not sitting down for one or two hours. Rather, I have my notebook and constantly jotting something down. Basically I’m tweeting in my notebook. And in the end of the day I go through my notes and the good idea, I’ll write them again and expand upon it in my main journal.
When I do this method, I never feel like I’m actually writing. I’m not writing in a forceful way; I’m just writing what feels natural. What I write down it’s nothing amazing. It’s all pretty boring if you happen to find my notebook on the ground.
But it’s like when I take photographs, if you look at all the photos I took all week, 95% of my memory card is meant to be dragged into the trash bin. But that’s how you get to the good photo. You have to take 99 photos in order to get one good one.
I’m going to be writing a lot. Most of it will be terrible but I hope in a couple of years, I’ll learn to shave off unnecessary sentences and paragraphs.
Lunch time right now finished work this morning and back home trying to finish Wuthering Heights before seeing the film this Friday.
It’s funny people are complaining that many people watching the Super Bowl Half-Time Show couldn’t understand a word Bad Bunny was saying. I didn’t understand either but it’s more about the rhythm. Plus so many people listen to J-pop and K-pop but many don’t even know what the lyrics are about.
