Finding Your Artistic Style
You feel like you need to have a particular style to get someone to notice your work. You feel that your work won't stand out because you don't have style. When you start a new creative medium don't worry about style if you don't have it. Don't try to forcefully insert your style. It won't work that way. The style will naturally emerge as a byproduct of creating everyday.
When I started photographing, I didn't think about style, I just liked the act of taking photographs on the street, editing the colors and posting them online. Doing that for 2-3 years my style emerged without even knowing. There was a certain kind of composition and proximity to the subject that I felt made a pleasing photo and didn't see many street photographers do it like this. That's when I discovered that this was my style. Now I get several comments from my fans saying they can tell a photograph is mine if my name wasn't on it.
I'm working on improving my writing now and applying that same concept. This whole time I've been worrying about my lack of style. I just need to write everyday. Pick and write a topic that interests me at the moment. Write short: a paragraph or two is enough. Cut out the fancy words and get to the point. Style will come much later.
