Initial Feelings After Quitting X

Almost two weeks ago, I deactivated my X account. Even though I curated my X feed to what I wanted and followed the accounts I wanted to follow, something was still wrong.

I become a recent movie fanatic and have been following all the movie review accounts and well known film critics.

I’m following all the stand up comedians I find hilarious.

I still enjoy watching and reading camera gear stuff.

For politics, I have it so that I’m getting posts that make fun of both the left and the right.

The problem though is it’s all too entertaining. The information is too much to take it. Because every tweet comes from one of the hundreds or thousands of accounts you follow, one tweet is happy and the next is the most depressing thing.

Reading tweets is a toxic relationship where someone says they love you today and say they hate you the next day.

Instead of reading tweets I now prefer reading books where the content is consistent and structured. Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction the book is bound by a plotline, an argument, a lesson and the writer’s style. Unlike tweets, the book will have very gradual fluctuations.

There’s been amazing thoughts on twitter and have discovered new programs, music and art I never would have discovered on my own had I not followed certain X accounts that introduced me to them.

So it’s good to be on X for a little bit but take a month or two off of it.

It’s the same reason I also deactivated my Instagram account for a bit. I need the time off and space to create more photographs before it’s time to post again.
