June 28th 2025
Earlier this week I’ve been having to wake up around 5:30am. I’m usually sleeping around 1-2 am so at most I’m getting 4.5 hours of sleep… Now that the weekend is here and have a couple more days off for the 4th of July week, I’m able to sleep in a little bit and plan to take advantage and catch up on more street photography.
For today, I got to sleep in but my body has been so used to the early wake up all week that I naturally woke up around 6am freaking out that I slept in and have some job assignment today. Realizing that it was a false alarm I went back to sleep for an extra two hours.
I usually like to go downtown around lunchtime but now that we’re deep into summer, the humidity and the haze is so bad that I don’t mind not leaving until 3 o’ clock when the sun is a little bit lower in the sky. It’s so hot that you really have to think about what you’re wearing so that you can keep cool for the several hours that I’m walking around in.
With that amount of walking that I do around town I’m surprised that I haven’t found a scene where someone has passed out on the sidewalk. I did see someone with their dog laying down at the corner of the intersection with its tongue sticking out panting. I was about to approach the dog owner and offer my unopened water that I just bought at the cafe but the dog stood up and they continued walking down the shadier side of the street.
One thing that I did buy while downtown was Bong Jun Ho’s Memories of Murder (2003) (Criterion Blu-Ray of course). It’s been on my watchlist for some time and luckily haven’t come upon any plot spoilers online. Really curious to see how it compares with his most well-known work Parasite (2019)
Before heading back home I sat by the water to photograph the ducks. That was probably the best thing I photographed all day.
After going to the parking garage and getting into my car, I didn’t feel like going home just yet and wanted to go somewhere but not sure where. My favorite pen I use to write with was running low on ink and drove to the stationery store where I bought it from. When I got there I discovered that they stopped selling it. Probably for the better cause on Amazon I found you could buy a set of 6 for the same price of getting a set of two at that store…
It’s humid alright but luckily I haven’t seen any mosquitoes here yet so I might read the last half of Strange Pictures with a glass of ice tea.
