Mid-June Stuff

This weekend was gray and drizzling and the entire next week is forecasted to rain as well.

This would have been a good weekend to shoot stuff despite the light rain and having a weatherproof camera.

Humidity is absolutely terrible and the way your clothes cling to your body makes me cringe.

I was considering going to D.C. on Saturday for the U.S. Army’s 250th Anniversary Parade (also falling on Trump’s 79th birthday). It might’ve been a good opportunity for interesting street photography shots that are only unique to events like these. But having been to many parades, events and protests in D.C. it’s almost the same thing every time and you come back home drenched in sweat and not getting that many shots.

When I go out to shoot street photography on a normal weekend I come back exhaused and sweaty but the amount of shots I come home with justify it all. But for big events such as this I don’t get many photos that contribute well with my style that I want to be known for. Plus getting back home after these big events is a disaster. Some metro stations are closed off for safety and traffic control and you’re fighting to get onto a packed metro car.

I stayed in my room and watched a couple of movies. Here’s two that I highly recommend:

Smooth Talk 1985

Featuring the young Laura Dern that put her name on the map. She plays a young 15 year old girl who a bit of the trouble maker in the family and flirting with boys at the mall and local hamburger joint. Things are all fun and games until a guy who’s a couple years older than the high schoolers takes an interest in her that leads to a very unsettling last third of the film.

What I kind of found intersting was even though this was filmed in the 80’s the mall culture and high school hang outs don’t feel all too different from mall culture today.

No Way Out 1987

Hands down my favorite film this weekend. I’ve been checking out some of the films of the great Gene Hackman. Hackman is one of the main characters but the lead role goes to Kevin Costner who plays a young Naval officer who falls in love with lone woman at a formal military dinner party played by Sean Young (best known for her role as Rachael in Blade Runner 1982).

It’s then revealed early on that Sean Young’s character happens to be the mistress to the Secretary of Defence (Hackman) who just happens to transfers Costner to work in D.C. with him to build trust with certain leadership within the CIA to help prevent certain military budget cuts that congress is voting for (or something like that…)

Anyway shit gets crazy when the mistress is found dead. To make sure no ties are connected between her and Hackman that will ruin him, he gets Costner to look for the supposed Russian mole that’s been a CIA rumor for several years and put the blame on him for her death. As the agency is investigating the death of Hackman’s mistress, there might soon discover that Costner might have relations with this woman and may now be the primary suspect.

If you liked The Fugitive (1993) w/ Harrison Ford, you will love this film as well!

But let me end this here. I also finished a light novel bought last week but will use that as the next blog post topic.

It’s raining the rest of the week. Even though it’s summer don’t think you can’t get sick. Please take care of yourself. Make sure to pack an umbrella and raincoat wherever you’re heading!
