First Post on the New Site

Ever since discovering street photography, for the first time ever, I feel like I have real control of my life. Before any of this it felt like I was never able to make my own choices. Society, family, friends and tradition telling you the clothes to wear, food to eat and career to get into.

Photography is my main platform of sharing how I view the world. But photography is still just one small sliver of life and don't want it to completely define me as a person.

There's still so many things in life that I want to do aside from photography. There's still so many books and films to see that I've missed out on all these years. Many of life's hidden gems has been piled over by current affairs, social media trends and mainstream news. I want to be like that kid who turns over those stones to see what insects or snakes are hiding under them.

The same way I'm sharing interesting moments through my photography, the purpose of this website is to share other interesting things that I have crossed paths with that you might find meaningful as well.

I had a website early on but was using it for the wrong reasons. Every artist had a website so I just followed the crowd without thinking about the *why* part. Yes, having a website is cool. But if you don't have a clear purpose of having one, use social media for now until the tools available are not enough to fully express how you want to present your work to the world.

My purpose of having a website?

It's not going to help make money. Nor will it help boost my following count. I want to be authentic as possible to whoever sees my content but most importantly myself. Years will accumulate and when I look back at everything I captured on camera or thoughts typed in a blog post, was I true to myself or doing it because it was the market trend of that time?

Maybe one day I'll start to sell something on here but for right now I just want this to be an public journal of my thoughts write about random stuff and maybe through that you'll discover your next favorite artist, book or film that you didn't know about.

What got me to finally to add blogging to my creative process was a clip I saw of Quentin Tarantino on Instagram that I can’t find any more (but will add it back here if I do find it!). The gist of what he was trying to say in that clip was as an artist, you are doing a disservice to the world by not publishing your work. You have a unique vision that no one else has and someone out there has been waiting for that piece of work or opinion that speaks to them.
